A huge number of users asked for us a way to use the iPod touch and iPhone as a disk drive (or pen drive). The Mediafour launched the XPlay 3 for this niche.

The software makes it possible to access devices via a drive, like any other device for removable disk. Just go to the "My Computer" and the iPod / iPhone will be listed.

The developer Planetbeing is really botando a hand in the mass in recent days! After discovering the cause of LCD driver does not work with the openiboot and correct the mistake, he now began development of the graphical boot menu to select the systems.

Now you can use the sleep button to navigate the menu, and could use the physical buttons to boot the iPod Linux or the original firmware in older versions of the iPod (up to 5G). For now there are 2 options: the "console openiboot" takes the user to interface in text mode, as shown in the last post on the subject (in case you must be plugged via USB with the client openiboot running on the PC). The iPhone OS "carries a copy of iBoot recorded in NOR, down from another identifier (in case the ibot turns openiboot and ibox turns the iBoot). He accomplished this by setting a slightly modified version of the ramdisk QuickPwn.

Currently, Planetbeing seeking help redesign the menu and develop a logo for the project. As he himself says, soon all that will win a very great attention and perhaps gain new operating systems in our household.

Yesterday we posted starting a new phase in iBlogeek, commemorating the 3-year-blog. On anniversary of 2 years, we migrate the blog blogspot for a field itself, change the layout, rolled out version of the iPod / iPhone and created the forum.

To start presenting the news we now set our new channel: iBlogeek Wiki.

The iBlogeek Wiki is a portal based on Mediawiki, bringing the possibility of collaboration by users to add and edit content. Me and prepare a basic pH, which brings important information for both new arrivals in the universe of iPhone OS, as for the veteran.

Our idea is that you all can collaborate to build content, simply create a user. Thus, over time, we have a vast database of information on all aspects of iPods and iPhones.

Initially, we are providing the following topics for reading:

  • Basic Terms
  • Models of hardware
  • Boot Modes
  • Programs
  • Hacking / Groups
  • Advanced information

The addition of new material is free, asking only that they respect the focus of articles, which must be related to iPods, iPhones and hence Apple.

The iBlogeek Wiki can be accessed through the address: http://www.iblogeek.com/wiki. It can also be accessed through the channels tab on the left menu or menu from above.

On Tuesday pH had spoken about the Planetbeing and its latest application, iBoot, capable of turning a bootrom customized touch the iPod and iPhone. One of the problems presented by the program was the lack of support for the LCD screen of the device, then, until now, everything was read and modified through a computer connected to it.

After a search through all the binary code of the software, disabling functions to try to detect the cause of problem, Planetbeing managed to make the driver fully functional. According to him, were two problems: the first - that was easily solved - came because he forgot to write the first and last bytes of the table range from the program. The second was more complex. He explained that the iBoot detect changes the SDIV clock in the middle of the startup process and said he does not know yet how many devices are affected by the change in frequency of the clock. Nevertheless, realized that affected the LCD, since before the screen was completely mangled.

Moreover, he wrote some code that allowed detect when the buttons (home, power ...) are pressed. From this step will be possible to build a menu graphic controlled by buttons on the unit. Initially, you can opt into the iPhone OS or enter the command-line mode of iBoot.

The source code that version of iBoot is now available for people who have experience in programming and can be downloaded in Github. The developer warns that can only be compiled on Linux and lacking in the case to compile libraries in another OS. Within the source code you can find some basic instructions on how to run application and he is currently compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch, both of the first generation.

The fix was an important step in "opening up" the iPod and iPhone, because it could open avenues for the starting of 3rd party operating systems such as Linux, for example.
